Teaching artists--writers, dancers, musicians, actors, graffiti artists, and film makers--have created highly engaging project proposals focused on working with students of all ages from diverse and under-served backgrounds around the state. Their goals? Multi-faceted, but in a nutshell, to nurture creativity and to connect communities. In these well-written grant proposals, I see lots of hard work, heart, hope, creativity and optimism.
As a teaching artist myself, these proposals inspire me as I head into a new semester. Expressing my creativity as a writer is a responsibility I take seriously. By doing so, I can serve as a model for my students and challenge them to produce their very best writing.
